TaylorMade RocketBallz Drivers 2012

ukgolfmall 2011-12-29

The name derives, TaylorMade says, from repeated exclamations from members of the company's tour staff after hitting prototypes that the ball comes off the clubs "like a rocket." TheRocketBallz series clubs promise booming distance, some of them are being used on tour by TM golfers.

The RocketBallz (or RBZ for short) drivers come in two models, the standard plus a Tour model. The Tour model has a more compact head than the standard. Both have white crowns with black clubfaces.

The RocketBallz drivers utilize TaylorMade's Flight Control Technology (FCT), which allows golfers to adjust the drivers for face angle, loft and lie angle. There are eight settings to the RBZ FCT sleeve, which effect launch changes that TaylorMade says results in up to 60 yards of side-to-side impact on trajectory. (FCT was introduced in the TaylorMade R9 series and our article about the R9 includes more explanation of how it works.)

Both RBZ drivers also incorporate the company's Inverted Cone Technology that enlarges the area on the clubface producing the highest COR and ball speeds.

Aerodynamic shaping and lightweight shafts and grips in the RocketBallz drivers also address swing speed. The standard RBZ driver comes with a 50-gram SuperFast Matrix Ozik XCON 5 shaft while the Tour model has a 55-gram Matrix Ozik XCon 6, with 25 other shafts available as custom options.
